At the Grupa Azoty Group, we use natural resources to produce energy for our own needs and to manufacture fertilizers and chemicals.
At the Grupa Azoty Group, we use natural resources to produce energy for our own needs and to manufacture fertilizers and chemicals. Most production materials, goods and services are purchased in Poland and other European Union countries. Some raw materials, including phosphate rock, titanium slag and potassium chloride, are supplied by our partners from outside the European Union. Ammonia and some sulfur supplies are sourced internally within the Group.
We have been consistently reducing the required volumes of raw materials at our companies for many years now. We implement solutions allowing us to improve productivity while reducing feedstock consumption and to combine earnings growth with improved environmental and climate performance.

Consumption of raw materials and energy:
2021 was an exceptional period in our history, marked by record-breaking prices of raw materials and unprecedented volatility across global markets. In particular, the highest ever prices of natural gas led to a previously unheard-of spike in production costs.
Grupa Azoty S.A.
- Grupa Azoty S.A. uses natural gas mainly to produce ammonia and hydrogen.
- Natural gas can also be used by the CHP plant as a reserve fuel to generate heat and electricity.
- The Company also uses dolomite rock and technical-grade nitric acid to make fertilizers.
- Liquid ammonia purchased by Grupa Azoty S.A. is used in the manufacture of nitrate fertilizers and caprolactam.
- Other necessary inputs in the production of caprolactam are phenol and liquid sulfur.
- Fuel oil and hard coal are feedstocks in heat and electricity generation.
Grupa Azoty Puławy
- At Grupa Azoty Puławy, high-methane natural gas is used to make ammonia. It is used in the production of caprolactam and melamine and as an auxiliary fuel at the CHP plant.
- Coal is the primary source of energy at the company.
- Benzene is used to produce cyclohexanone, a semi-finished product applied in the production of caprolactam.
- Sulfur is used to make sulfuric acid, another input in the production of caprolactam.
- Ammonia and nitric acid are the main intermediate products for fertilizer production. Ammonia manufactured internally is periodically supplemented with volumes sourced from third-party suppliers.
Grupa Azoty Police
- Grupa Azoty Police uses potassium chloride, phosphate rock, sulfur and sulfuric acid procured from third-party suppliers to produce compound fertilizers.
- Sulfuric acid, ilmenite, titanium slag and natural gas are key raw materials in the production of titanium white.
- Natural gas is used in the production of ammonia intended for sale and ammonia used as a semi-finished product to make urea and compound fertilizers.
Grupa Azoty Kędzierzyn
- The company uses ammonia in the production of fertilizers and nitric acid.
- Sulfuric acid is used to manufacture fertilizers containing sulfur.
- Dolomite rock is used in the production of granulated fertilizers.
- The company uses terephthalic acid to make plasticizers.
- Propylene is used in the production of aldehydes.
- Natural gas is used as a feedstock for fertilizers.
